Attention: Parents of 2011-2012 7th grade students!

There are immunization requirement changes that will affect the incoming 2011-2012 seventh (7th) grade students. Approved Means of Immunization Pursuant to Sections 3701.13 and 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states;

Effective with the 2010-2011 school year, and each year thereafter, one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis, adolescent and adult formulation) or Td (Tetanus and diphtheria adult) vaccine shall be required prior to entry into the seventh (7th) grade.  This dose is intended to be administered as a booster dose for students who have completed the required doses of the initial series of DTaP/DT/Td.

Verification of immunization must be received in the school office by the first day of classes August 24, 2010.  Additional information can be obtained from your family physician or you can contact the school.

The Tipp City Schools Board of Education approved placing a Renewal Levy on the ballot.

The Tipp City Board of Education voted on July 14th, 2011, to combine two of its emergency levies into one issue for a period of five years, for NO NEW TAXES and place it before the voters of Tipp City at the election on November 8, 2011. By combining the two emergency levies it will renew a total of $3,690,000 per year. The Board Members agree that a five-year collection for the renewal emergency levy is a good fit for the district.

  • Tipp City Exempted Village Schools’ website: www.tippcityschools.com  is full of important information please go there often to stay updated on the district and your child’s schools’ happenings.

  • Reminder to Parents of students who ride the bus:  On September 5th we will resume taking babysitter/daycare changes. All students are assigned back to their home addresses each school year for bus transportation.  We don’t assume they will be back at the same daycare/sitter from the previous year.

The first two weeks of a new school year are challenging enough for bus drivers without multiple changes for students.  Thank you!

August 2, 2011

Dear Community Members:

As you are probably aware, the state had an $8 billion deficit in the budget to balance.   To address this deficit, the Governor and State Legislature have chosen to reduce state funding in various areas.  As a result of a reduction in state funding, school budgets are being cut, including our budget here in Tipp City.

The cuts are significant.  Current estimates reflect a loss in state funding of $570,514 which equates to a 3.3% reduction in General Fund revenues.  It is also estimated that we will be cut $740,682 in Personal Property Tax Reimbursement which represents an additional reduction of 4.3% in General Fund revenues.  Combining those cuts total $1,311,196 which represents a reduction of General Fund revenues of 7.6% in the current FY2012 Fiscal Year (7/1/2011 – 6/30/2012).  At this time we are scheduled to lose an additional $312,500 in FY2013 (7/1/2012-6/30/2013) in the Personal Property Tax Reimbursement.

The total estimated General Fund loss for the two year period is $1,623,696 or 9.4% for the 2 year period based on revenues for FY2011 which just ended.

Again, these amounts are an estimate at this point in time.  However, our budget is going to see a substantial reduction.  Every student, parent, and school system employee will be affected.

This is a difficult time for our community.  However, the board and our administration have plans to minimize the effect.  Our Treasurer, Joe Smith, has been tracking the financial information, and providing the best information possible to make thoughtful decisions.  We have strong, stable leadership from Dr. John Kronour and Joe Smith (and their team) to help us through these tough changes.

Other positives of our school system include…

  1. DEDICATED STAFF AND TEACHERS – We are fortunate to have quality people educating our students.  They are going to be asked to make financial sacrifices, have larger classes, and work longer hours.
  2. STRONG PARENT AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT – The Tipp City community provides unbelievable support to our schools.  Tipp City Council, Monroe Township Trustees, the school support organizations and other volunteers help positively shape our students.
  3. REDUCED COSTS – The entire school system, including the students, have worked together to reduce unnecessary costs in our daily operations.  We are also seeing the financial benefits of our technology and green investments.

The school is preparing for the changes now.  We want to avoid, or at least delay, coming back to you- the taxpayer-for additional money.  We know it is not a good time.

There will be a renewal levy on the November ballot.  This levy will not increase current taxes.  If it were to fail, it would be a brutal 3rd strike of funding for our district.

We encourage feedback from the community on how best to address these situations.  Feel free to contact any school administrator, Dr. Kronour, Dr. Kumpf, Mr. Smith, or any school board member.  For detailed financial information, please contact Joe Smith.
