A Letter to the Community

Matthew 25:36,40 “For I was hungry, and you fed me … I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!

Thank you on behalf of the entire 5/2 Lunch Bunch Leadership Team for your support of our summer lunch program in West Milton and Potsdam this year.

Through the generous donations of individuals, churches and community organizations, we were able to do the following:

1071 hot meals served to teens, younger children, parents, and Sr. Citizens. This total includes meals prepared and served at Hoffman UMC;
and sent to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Potsdam UMC “satellites” where they served people in those vicinities.

85 carry home bags of food which were sent home the weeks of August 1st and 8th . These contained easy to prepare breakfasts and lunches for
the week. Each family also received jars of peanut butter and jelly.

Each satellite did their own activities, which included Bible stories, movies, crafts, recreation and/or music.

688.25 volunteer hours were logged this summer!

Those who came to eat and those who served were equally blessed.

So you can see, your generosity helped to feed many people this summer—not only physically, but spiritually and we are so grateful.  Again we would like to thank the following: The West Milton Lions Club, The Miami County Foundation, The Milton-Union Community Chest,  Lutheran Community Thrivent Grant, Nashville UCC, Nashville UCC Mite Fellowship, The West Milton UCC, Potsdam UMC, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and Hoffman UMC, as well as private monetary and  in-kind donations.  We are especially grateful for the gift of time from our many volunteers who faithfully served day after day, week after week.  God bless you all.

We hope to return again next summer for our fifth year and pray that many others will participate either through funding or volunteer service.  I close with words from Theodor Geisel, A.K.A. “Dr. Seuss” so appropriate in the present day economy:

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better.  It’s not.”

Thanks for caring a “whole awful lot” and making it a good summer for many.

Blessings,

Pam Hitchcock

Discipleship Director Hoffman UMC / Pastor, Potsdam UMC
