The 2010 Tipp City Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award was presented Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at that organization’s Annual Holiday Gala, held at the Crystal Room in Troy. This year’s recipient was Hickory River Smokehouse owned and operated by Brad & Krista Bowman. The award winning sit down restaurant, drive-thru/carry-out and catering business was opened in the fall of 2006 at 135 S. Garber Drive, Tipp City. The restaurant has provided a number of new, full and part time jobs, has increased tax revenue for the city, refurbished a prominent vacant structure, pulls business from Interstate 75, and participates in numerous community events. As of 2010, 100% of the employees live at Tipp City addresses, many having moved into the area as a result of their employment.
The food is delicious and unique to the area, portions are generous and priced fairly, and staff is always friendly and helpful. The aroma outdoors from the smokers is enough to make anyone hungry for their brisket, ribs, pork loin, ham, or turkey breast, or for the award winning pulled pork and barbeque sauces. They also offer full service catering of all their meats and sides, and they can even provide whole-hog roasts. Additional information about items on their menu, including nutritional information can be found at www.hickoryriver.com .
