Tipp City, OH October 27th, 2018 – On Friday night, visitors to the Butler v Tipp City football game were treated to a poignant halftime moment as Joe Duncan and his wife, Gina, presented a check for $25,000 to the Tipp Pride Association. The check was a generous donation in honor of the officiating legacy of Joe’s father, Ron Duncan.

The funds will be used to sponsor the construction of the Officials’ Locker Room at the new stadium and help to keep it stocked.

About Ron Duncan

Ron Duncan served for over 50 years, both as an Official as well as a Certified Officiating Assigner for Western Ohio, CCC, and GWOC conferences. Although he retired from officiating in 2000, Ron continues to this day to work as an Assigner for the CCC. And at 88 years young, Ron still attends every UD women’s home basketball game in the A-10 Conference, greeting and welcoming the officials.

Joe Duncan knows firsthand what it takes to serve as an official. He officiated his first HS Varsity Football game with his Dad in 1974. 17 years as a high school official and 27 years as a college official later, Joe understands that an official’s time away from their families can be substantial. They show up well before the games and leave after the crowds have dispersed. Retired since 2010 from the Big Ten Conference, Joe saw the new stadium as an opportunity to pay it forward and provide a nice place for future officials to gather and serve.

Both Ron and Joe are honored in the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame.

The Duncan Family, born and raised in Tipp City

Joe’s wife Gina was a secretary in the Tipp City Schools for 9 years and their children, Natalie ’05 and Alyson ’01 were members of the THS marching band. The Duncan family are active participants in the Tipp City community and are excited to be part of this new era with the stadium renovations.
