The other morning I had to get up early to attend a meeting. Now, up front, let me tell you — I am not a morning person. If there’s a good example of the perfect morning person, someone who bounds out of bed at 6 am, ready to take on the world, then I’m that person’s polar opposite. I don’t get up early unless I’m forced to—I am lucky enough to have a wife that’s happy to get up early and get the kids going on their days or get them off to school.
I seem to be at my best and to get my best work done in those magic hours between 9pm and 2am in the morning. I know it’s strange, but I get my best work done late at night. After everyone else goes to bed, the house grows very quiet, and I can really only write or concentrate on complicated projects when the house is quiet. It seems like whenever I try to do something complicated during the day, the inevitable interruptions make it impossible… (more)
