Foundation Grants Awarded to Community

Tipp City, OH, September 30, 2009 –TippNews DAILY– The Distribution Committee of the Tipp City Area Community Foundations met on September 8, 2009 to award grants.  Along with the other members of the committee, these community leaders considered several grant requests that could benefit its citizens.  In the end, six organizations were chosen to receive 10 awards totaling $21,275.69.

Among those organizations is one that had not received a grant from the Foundation in the past, Bethel Hope.

Grants awarded in this giving cycle were the following.

Social-             Bethel Hope, $2,000, assists citizens of Bethel Township and surrounding areas meet basic needs during times of critical personal downturns.

Education-      Bethel Local Schools, $900, funds subscriptions to online educational resources with focal areas to include reading and vocabulary.

Social-             Needy Baskets, $9,000, helps this agency meet the expanding demands being asked of it.  Their services include food vouchers for the elderly, toy and shoe vouchers for children and parcels of food for hungry families.

Art-                     St. John’s Early Childhood Program, $310, provides for the visit of the Dayton Philharmonic String Quartet to the school.

Recreation-      Tipp Monroe Community Services, $2,958, purchases a music-quality sound system to be used for large public gatherings like Run for the Mums, Breakfast with Santa and the Halloween Parade.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools

Education-      $1,417.69, bolsters the High School English Department with the technology to make classrooms more interactive.  Now class projects can be visually interactive with group presentations, group editing and even virtual tours of authors’ homes.

Environment- $2,850, defrays the cost of L. T. Ball’s annual 5th grade excursion to Camp kern in Oregonia, Ohio

Environment-  $440, rocks the world of the 3rd grade students with a hands-on exploration of geology via the Boonshoft’s Exhibits to Go program.

Education-      $900, enables 4th grade students to visit SunWatch Indian Village and the Miamisburg Mound.

Art-                 $500, transports middle school students back in time to Medieval Day, a cross-curricular combination of social studies and language arts classes.  After reading “Crispin” the Cross of Lead,” students create costumes and entertainment reflecting days of old for a wonderful pageant of imagination.

Since 1943, the Tipp City Area Community Foundations has awarded over $1,297,000 in grants to the community.  Members of the Distribution Committee are Mike Lightle, chair, Heather Bailey, Marilyn Richards, Matt Timmer and Jackie Wahl.  Other trustees include Jesse Chamberlain, Joan Creech, Anita Bowman-Hamber, Nancy McAlpin and Dr. Jim Ranft.
