Jack Robinson releases Miami County’s Unprecedented Signature Totals

July 1st, 2011 – Troy, Ohio  Jack Robinson, a volunteer for the We Are Ohio campaign, stood with friends and supporters outside the Miami County Court House to share his story on why overturning Senate Bill 5 in Ohio is so important.

“Senate Bill 5 is an unfair attack on employee rights and worker safety” said Mr. Robinson. “Why am I here?  Almost 70 years ago three brothers sat on a grass wet with dew and watched men peacefully standing in the front of the Columbia Chemical plant being hit with billy-clubs and arrested by Akron police.  They watched it happen to their Dad.  I was about five then, but I remember.”

Wednesday, We are Ohio turned in 1,298,301 signatures to the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.  The campaign needs 231,147 valid signatures to be placed on the November ballot.  The campaign was required to get 3% of the vote in the last governor’s race in a minimum of 44 counties, We Are Ohio collected more than 6% in all 88 counties.

“In Miami County, we needed to collect signatures based on 37,137 votes cast in the 2010 governor’s race,” Mr. Robinson announced, “ We needed 1,114 to hit the 3% mark, and 2,228 signatures to hit the 6% mark. We Are Ohio collected 5,896 signatures in Miami County, almost 16 percent of the votes cast in Miami County.”

“We are humbled and grateful for the unprecedented citizen-driven, bipartisan, grass-roots support,” Mr. Robinson said, “Now it is on to November 8th!”
