Meijer's and Tipp City.. Give back

For many, Saturday mornings come all too early and packed with things to accomplish. But for about 70 Tipp City residents this Saturday started a bit differently.

As the holiday season fast approaches and instead of caulking the bathtub, cleaning out the basement or raking leaves these local residents chose to help out some needy families. In a project initiated by the generosity of the folks at Meijer’s in Troy and Huber Heights as well as Meijer’s Distribution here in Tipp City 102 bicycles were donated to Tipp Monroe Community Services to be assembled and distributed to the needy.

Community Services requested that any and all people who wanted to help could come to the Needy Basket Saturday to assemble these bikes and get them ready. There were folks from organizations all over town represented.. the Local Masonic Lodge, Tipp City United Methodist, Crossroads Church, City Council Board members, Monroe Township, Re-Max just to name a few!

Of course, if anyone has ever assembled a bike at Christmas time, you know that not every kit has all of the pieces required to assemble it. The team of 70 assemblers required more parts to finish the job. Etcio, owner of Tipp Cyclery was more than willing to donate all the stock he had. (Thanks Etcio!) A member of the Tippecanoe Masonic Lodge, Ian Spencer helped to make up the difference and bought the rest of the parts necessary to finish all 102 bikes.

Cathy Taylor of Tipp Monroe Community Services thanked Meijer’s, Tipp Cyclery, the Masonic Lodge for their generosity and all of the other organizations and residents who came out to donate their time today.
