Third grade students from Nevin Coppock Elementary recently participated in the American Heart Association Jump for Heart fund-raising campaign. P. E. teacher, Mr. Don Wildermuth, who has organized and promoted the event since 1996, said this year’s students raised $2,430 in sponsored pledges for the noteworthy organization. This amount surpasses all previous years’ totals with the overall sum exceeding $30,000.
Wildermuth said he utilizes a coloring contest as a tool for students to understand the functions of the various parts of the heart. Students also adorned their lockers with more decorative heart pictures and could dedicate them to a special friend or loved one who may have been afflicted with heart disease, stroke or other medical issues attributed to the heart.
Prizes were furnished by the AHA and U.S. Games which also offers a $100 gift card to schools that exceed $1,500 in donations.
