Obit: Chuck Cartwright

Charles “Chuck” or “Charlie” C. Cartwright of Covington, Ohio formerly of Tipp City, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011. He was born in Gallia County, Ohio March 1, 1934 to Frank and Nevada {Turner} Cartwright, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years; Nancy {Thomas} Cartwright and his four children; Dan (Nadine) Cartwright, Tipp City, Beth (Denny) Booher, Covington, Lynn (Daryl) Gibson, Maysville, Kentucky and Steve Cartwright, Troy, eight grandchildren; Crystal Cartwright (Mike) Knupp, Shaun (Renee) Cartwright, Andi Gibson (Chris) Baker, Daniel Gibson, Steve (Tracy) Bailey, Chris, Brian and Adam Cartwright, six great-grandchildren; Easton and Nolan Knupp, Zaine and Paige Baker, Parker and Kaylyn Bailey, brothers; Harold Cartwright of Lima and Ted (Sandy) Ball of Efland, North Carolina, sisters Ellen Layne, Gallipolis, Ohio and Carolyn Newman, Oak Hill, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by one brother; Raymond.

Charles was retired from Dayton Daily News after almost 30 years. He coached Little League baseball for several years, also serving as president. He was an active member of Tipp City Seniors where he was a past president. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing softball in the “Over 70” league, gardening (he was famous for sharing his produce!), and especially loved spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity and his optimistic nature. He was VERY proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed them immensely. Thank you Dad for teaching us by example to be humble, tolerant and kind to others. You will be dearly missed by all who knew you.

Funeral service 10:30 AM on Friday, September 2, 2011 at FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St. Tipp City, Ohio 45371. Visitation 4 to 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
