Progressive Livestock 4-H club discusses tractor safety

The Progressive Livestock 4-H club will learn about the dangers of tractor safety at their meeting Sunday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. Alyssa Swinehart, Cargill outreach coordinator, will teach kids the dangers of working with machinery.
Agriculture has the second highest fatality rate among youth, and among the leading sources of fatalities 25 percent involved machinery.
“Tractors and machinery play a crucial role on the farm,” said Swinehart. “That’s said it’s critical to know the dangers and how to safely use them.”
Swinehart partners with Farm Safety 4 Just Kids to offer safety education for youth. Farm Safety 4 Just Kids was founded over 20 years ago by Marilyn Adams after the death of her son in a gravity flow grain wagon accident. The organization promotes a safe farm environment to prevent injuries and death by educating our youth. For more information, visit www.fs4jk.org.
