TIPP TALK – September 20

TIPP TALK – September 20
by Greg Enslen

Phillip Nagle Returns from Cross Country Bike Tour: Phillip Nagle of Tipp City cycled around the entire lower 48 states in just over 48 days and was welcomed this past Monday by a crowd of over a 100 when he arrived back in Tipp City.  Fan gathered at the CVS and held up a paper banner for Phillip to bike through as he completed his trip to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help fund research to cure blood cancers.  Congratulations Phillip on your amazing journey!

Mum Festival and Fall into Tipp: Mum Festival, Classic Car Show, Run for the Mums, Downtown Parade – seriously, there is a lot going on! The Mum Festival weekend kicks off with the Friday Night Cruise-In on the 25th, then the Run for the Mums at 8am and the Parade 10 am downtown.  Then head to the City Park for the 51st Annual Mum Festival, the longest running annual festival in Miami County.  Pick up some Fireman’s waffle cakes and funnel cakes and enjoy the festivities! Check out tippcitymumfestival.org for more information.

Has It Been 4 Years Already? It’s hard to believe, but Harrison’s has been open for four years now – it just doesn’t seem that long ago that they opened their doors after the massive and expensive renovation and restoration.  They took the former Paddys restaurant and made it into something to behold – a beautifully preserved brick-lined interior.  Join them on Friday, September 25th as the folks at Harrison’s celebrate their 4th anniversary here in Tipp – drop by, enjoy the live music from Sawgrass, and let them know how much we Tipp folks appreciate them locating such a Miami Valley landmark in our humble little burg.

Moving, Moving, Moving: Who says Tipp City isn’t a dynamic place?  The Buckeye Distillery was approved by a 5-0 Planning Board vote last week, so they’re gearing up to start producing Tipp City’s very own brand of Vodka!  Hopefully we’ll be able to see Buckeye Vodka (“Produced in Tipp City, Ohio”) in local stores and restaurants soon.  And changes at the Frame Shop – they’ve moved lock, stock and barrel into the old Tippecanoe Trophy Shop location, next to the Old Tippecanoe Coffee Shop.  Word has it that Sally Watson is moving her pottery studio into the old frame shop location after a fire damaged her previous studio next to the Chamber of Commerce.

Staying Put: And speaking of the Frame Shop, have you been into one of the best thrift shops in Ohio lately?  Tipp City’s Clothesline has a great collection of fall clothes and a Halloween rack – plus professional dress attire.  And most importantly, they have supported area agencies with thousands of dollars from their proceeds.  Remember, we’ve got to support our local merchants if we want them to stay in Tipp!

Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers: The Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers Vintage Base Ball Team played two games at Carillon Park on Saturday, September 12th against the Kettering Clodbusters and the Cincinnati Buckeyes.  The Canal Jumpers struggled mightily but lost both games in front of crowd of supporters.  There were well-hit balls and double plays and clothing malfunctions and a great time was had by most.   The Canal Jumpers are actively planning for next year, with the thinking being 5-10 games, including home and away games.  Anyone interested in purchasing vintage Team Posters or helping the team out next year, contact me or visit the website at www.tippecanoecanaljumpers.com for more information.
