TIPP TALK – The Weather

December 12
by Greg Enslen

Weather Woes.
As I’m writing this, it’s Wednesday morning and it is snowing sideways outside my windows. Last night it was so windy that a light pole was down on Main Street near the Veteran’s Memorial. I love weather, and Tipp City has great, every changing weather patterns that I enjoy, but then I’m strange – I love snow and rain and cloudy days and sunny ones. I’ve lived all over and it’s hard to appreciate weather when it’s bad, but just remember, it’s better than having it stay the same all the time. I lived in Los Angeles for several years, and in South Dakota and in Charleston, and when the weather is stagnant, it can get pretty boring. In LA it was always 72 degrees and smoggy, and rarely would it rain. Folks out there weren’t used to the changing seasons or leaves on the ground or a dusting of snow, and after several years of constant shorts weather, I started to miss the changing of the seasons. So if you don’t like the weather today, just wait until tomorrow!

Tipp City Radio Station.
I’ll bet you didn’t know this, but Tipp City has its own Internet radio station called Get Social! Radio. This local station streams a continuous, 24-hour audio feed over the Internet, providing Tipp City residents with local news, weather, entertainment, sports and talk including the popular syndicated Get Social! Radio Show with Mike McDermott and myself as hosts. This week we interviewed three players from the Dayton Gems hockey team, which plays at the Hara Arena against several other regional teams in the Internation Hockey League (IHL). We’ve also covered local events, talked with business leaders, reviewed movies and chatted with movie stars. Repeats of the radio show are also broadcast on KIT-TV several times a week, and listeners can tune into Get Social Radio using their personal computer, laptop, iPhone or BlackBerry devices by visiting http://getsocialradio.com and clicking the Listen Now! button at the top of the page.

Homes for the Holidays!
Historic Downtown Tippecanoe held their holiday tour of homes benefiting the Tipp City Area Arts Council on December 5, 2009 – hope you got a chance to come out. Accompanying the Homes for the Holidays tour was a weekend of family-friendly events celebrating the season. The tour included seven historic properties, including the Willowtree Inn and residences on Main Street, Dow Street, and Broadway. Each location also displayed original pieces presented by local artisans. The festivities were projects of the Downtown Tipp City Partnership and Tipp Monroe Community Services. For more information, check out the Tipp City Visitor’s Bureau website at www.visittippcity.org and click on “Events.” If you missed the opportunity to see the homes but would still like to make a donation, please contact the Tipp Monroe Community Services or the Downtown Tipp City Partnership.
