Steve Longenecker, program host, invited Tony Hughes, Union Township Superintendent and chairman of the Veterans Memorial Committee, as our guest speaker at the September 12 West Milton Rotary Club. The meeting was held in the West Milton Park near the recently completed Veterans Memorial. Tony gave the historical timeline of this project from the planning, fundraising, and steps in completing from 1998 until this past summer. He thanked the West Milton Rotary Club for sponsoring one of the stones commemorating one of the wars. He also gave thanks to Hale-Sarver for their sponsorship. They are looking for additional sponsors for the other stones that have laser remembrances of past wars. The original committee consisted of Al Daum, David “Rudy” Kozuh, Bob Sowers, Dan Barford, Carol Holmes and Tony Hughes. The current committee is Daum, Kozuh, Sowers, Hughes and Kenny Kauffman, secretary. Tony also thanked Rotarian, Steve Longenecker, a master gardener, for his work in finishing the landscaping with help from Hank Brunsveld. Tony also thanked many other contributors for donations of time, work, supplies and support.
