The first annual 5K Run for Healing will be held in Tipp City, on August 1 to raise funds for the local medical mission, Legacy of Healing.
This unique fundraiser will support a great cause for those in need around the globe. Legacy of Healiing is a 501c3 non profit organization with the sole purpose of sending medical mission teams around the world to promote and enhance physical and spiritual well being.
The organization’s mission of compassion, illumination and restoration has taken the Legacy team to Guatemala, Belize, Peru, Honduras, Paraguay and Zambia, Africa since 2004. Led by Dr. Steve Schmidt, an Ohio plastic surgeon, the surgical team has performed over 400 free surgical procedures on indigent patients and the clinic team has provided free treatment to over 4000 patients in distant locations. Some of the procedures performed include cleft lip and palate repair, burn scar releases, hernias and various birth defect repairs.
Tipp City resident Amy Goldschmidt, the events organizer said, “I had heard of Legacy of Healing and wanted to help out in some way. There are many people around the world that do not have the benefit of even the most basic care that we take for granted.”
In addition to the 5K run there will be a 1 mile youth run both starting at Kyle Park in Tipp City.
