A Little Piece of History

I hated history when I was a kid but, truth be told, all of us enjoy history of some kind or another. A walk through our homes might reveal a photo album or a family portrait over the fireplace. Yearbooks, sports memorabilia, college papers, your dog’s paw print in Plaster of Paris, bronzed baby booties or the graduation tassel you still have is the history you enjoy.

The Tipp City Historical Society is a group of volunteers who has gone the extra mile to preserve your lateral history; the history that encompasses the place where you live. Now you have a chance to own a piece of that history with Tipp City memorabilia that is both functional and nostalgic.

This winter, when the wind is howling and the snow is falling, why not pour your hot tea into a Tipp City mug? Then snuggle up in a Tipp City coverlet that features fourteen different historical pieces of architecture in a beautiful woven design. Coverlets come in three colors (green/off white, blue/off white, and red/off white) and a page describing each of the historical sites featured.

In keeping with the season, the second in a series of historical ornaments has just been released. Whether you hang them on your Christmas tree or display them year ‘round, these wooden ornaments are an economical way to preserve the past to enjoy at present. Wooden replicas of seven different buildings are available to display atop your door frames, mantles or shelves.

Do you know someone who has moved away from Tipp City? Send them a “hello” written on a Tipp City postcard or note card.

Why not stuff a stocking or stock up on party favors with Tippecanoe playing cards, Barnhart recipe cards or a Historical Society cookbook?

Also new to the Society this year is the Activity Book. Created as a supplement to the third-grade curriculum for Tipp City schools, this book has a hidden picture page by Liz Ball, a word search and coloring pages drawn by local artist Pauline Persing. Each page is accompanied by historical information.

These items, and more, are available for purchase at both the History Museum (corner of 3rd and Walnut) and the Tipp-Monroe Community Services offices (3 E. Main Street). For more information contact Susan Spitler, 936-698-6798 or Jackie Wahl, 937-332-6721.
