Cara's Corner: The Ghost of Blackwood Lane

The Ghost of Blackwood Lane by Greg Enslen

Praise for Local Author
This is the first time I have read a book written by someone I would call a friend. Greg Enslen is a friend and also a local Author that we should all get to know! I was at the Antique and Artisan Show in July and sat down next to Greg at his table where he was selling his books. He recommended that I read The Ghost of Blackwood Lane, signed a nice inscription and I started reading right away. The book also accompanied me on our camping trip where I enjoyed reading next to the campfire. I wonder, though, if I like this book because I know the author or because I enjoyed the story….hmmmm….I think both!
Research is Key
There are many elements of the story that Mr. Enslen had to research – St. Louis Mafia – tarot card readings – hypnosis – forced memory loss, just to name a few. I have always wanted to write a book and I found myself amazed at the detail and the research it took to write this book.
The Story…
Gary’s father had worked for the Mafia in St. Louis and, after testifying against them, he was forced to go into hiding with his son. Before doing so, Gary’s memory was wiped clean of his memories of those he loved and his life in St. Louis. Gary and his father then started their new life in Los Angeles. It was always thought that the memory loss would be temporary by having a saying that would bring his memories back…the psychologist was killed and his father, who couldn’t remember the saying, let the memory alteration continue. Gary began having memories through dreams of people he recognizes but just can’t explain. Anything about that period in his life brings severe pain but he has to figure out why he is having these dreams and why they are having such an affect on him.

In doing so, he is lead back to St. Louis where he is able to unlock the memories, which is difficult and painful but leads to an ending that you (as the reader) wish for. I’m happy to know Greg and can’t wait to read another book.
