City Searches for Consultant for Code Update

According to this published document, Matt Spring with the City of Tipp City is seeking a consultant to update the various zoning codes across Tipp City.

The stated goal of the planned zoning code updates will help the City to plan its growth strategy over the next 10-15 years. As many may have been aware, over the years Tipp City has been challenged (legally and operationally) with several components of the zoning ordinances. In meetings earlier this year, city officials stated that the code changes and updates to clarify and correct inconsistencies in the City’s zoning code will help to prevent legal challenges as well as streamline the processes that builders and developers go through in order to do their work.

Some examples of the desired changes would be to modernize the language of the code and eliminate confusing terms, for instance, replacing the measurement of light output in “Foot candles” with “lumens”. While a foot-candle and a lumen emit the same amount of light, the update makes our code match those specifications and language provided by modern manufacturers of lighting equipment.

The requests for proposals should have been submitted by June 3rd, 2011 and are now under review.

The cost for the consultant is budgeted between $85,000 and $95,000.
