Earth Day always brings a flourish of earth friendly activities to local schools. Broadway Elementary is no exception. On Thursday, April 15, second grade students took part in an enrichment program that focused on Earthwork Art. First the students learned about British artist, Andy Goldsworthy, whose work in ephemeral art is what inspired the students. Ephemeral art is short lasting and Goldsworthy uses organic material as his medium.
The students were teamed in pairs and designed their own Earthworks using material found on the school grounds. Special Area Teachers, Joan Lucas, Bill Pryor, Lorrie Hager and Marci Utt supervised the students in their endeavors. Four teams were picked as winners and will enjoy a pizza lunch for their efforts. The winning teams were: Donovan Patterson and Catherine Konicki, Luke Anticoli and Owen Pence, Ray Kueterman and Alex Hernandex, Alyssa Toman and Kayla Wall.
The public is invited to see the winning entries and other student artwork at Broadway’s annual Art Show and Ice Cream Social from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, May 4.
