Election day is tomorrow!

Election day is less than 24 hours away. Are you prepared to vote smartly for all of the candidates and issues? If you are reading this post, statistics say you are intelligent and earn a better than average wage. So now that I have surprised you with a kind word, let’s see what sort of trouble I get into first with a brief review of Issues 2 and  3.

While the local Tipp City Area Chamber did not take a stand on either issue (for lack of a quorum) the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce did take a position this week first in opposition to State Issue 3, an Ohio Constitutional amendment that would authorize casino gambling. The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce then took an official position endorsing State Issue 2, an Ohio Constitutional Amendment that would create the Ohio Livestock Standards Board.

Bottom line for Issue 2

Issue 2 is a constitutional change, provides for Ohio-based farm and agricultural oversight and is supported by state and local Chambers as well as most Ohio farmers. The opposition to Issue 2 is primarily the farm union, PETA and out of state interests.

Bottom line for Issue 3

Issue 3 is also a constitutional change, provides approval for a single developer to construct and operate 4 casinos in Ohio (Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland and Columbus). Opposition to Issue 3 is bipartisan and include the US Chamber, Ohio Chamber and Dayton Chamber of Commerce.

The Dayton Chamber’s opposition to the State Issue 3 is not an opposition to gambling in the State of Ohio or the related economic development benefits, but is an opposition to inequitable misuse of Ohio’s Constitution and unfair deference given to a specific business and geographic locations in the Ohio Constitution.
“Issue 3 is not good public policy,” stated Phil Parker, President & CEO of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. “Issue 3 creates a monopoly in the Ohio Constitution and restricts equitable competition in the gaming industry.”

So what say ye?
Remember to set your alarm early and go vote before work tomorrow.

Then come back to TippNews DAILY for comprehensive coverage of all issues and local races thar affect you!!
