October, 2012: Last year, through your generosity, Tipp City Area United Way allocated 18% of their funding toward Education. Allotting much needed funds to help children and youth achieve their potential because, every child deserves to grow happy and healthy, even those with disabilities.
We Care Arts, is one of our Partner Agencies. While their primary recipients of service are children with disabilities, they are not the only ones that benefit from their programming. Most of their families are unable to afford after school activities or any other programming that brings them together with others. Their children’s only social interaction is during school; and often, these parents, because of their own day to day responsibilities, have little or no interaction with adults that understand their unique circumstances.
Roo attends the weekly art classes held at Zion Lutheran Church. His profound disabilities require 24 hour care, which is provided by his mom. She is not able to leave him unattended; even for a few minutes. Mom like Roo, was isolated, and had few friends. By coming to the classes, not only has Roo blossomed, but his mother has met and made friends with other parents who share her concerns, frustrations, and trials. Roo gets to enjoy the progress of creating art, and mom gets the support and encouragement she needs as well.
When you contribute to your local United Way you are giving to kids, who are often left out of activities that typical children enjoy, the opportunity to dazzle us with their creativity; all because they were given adapted tools and modified techniques to do it. Because when one of us fail we all fail, and when one of us succeed we all succeed.
