  • The public is invited to the annual TMS Arts Fest and Independent Study Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., May 17.      In addition to a vast array of art projects, Independent Study classes will have Power Point Presentations and projects on display in the library and library computer lab.
  • Lady Red Devils Softball Coach Charles Tackett proudly announced that junior, Kacey Locker, was selected WHIO Athlete of the week.  Visit www.whiotv.com/video/23453893/index.html to view the video.
  • Mr. Matt Shomper has recently accomplished two personal goals.  He completed the 26.2 mile Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, in memory of his father, Richard Shomper and life-long friend, Sherwin Eisman, raising more than $5,000 for Hospice of Dayton.  (To donate, contact: MShomper@tippcity.k12.oh.us by May 20.)  In addition Mr. Shomper has recently qualified for the distinctive title, Certified Master Athletic Administrator, from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
  • In conjunction with Relay for Life Week at L. T. Ball, Mrs. Carmella Lammers provided age-appropriate cancer education enrichment for the students.  Topics included:  What is Cancer?  – Normal vs. Abnormal Cell Growth, Types of Cancer, Prevention, Treatment and Support.  The entire student body gathered at the track this morning to acknowledge Relay for Life with opening ceremonies and a lap around the track.
  • The Tippecanoe Music Program was quite successful at Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Finals last weekend.  Symphonic Choir and Concert Choir both earned Superior ratings at the event at which THS hosted about 1,000 choir members.  In addition, the Symphonic Winds received an overall Superior Rating at OMEA Concert Band State Finals in Troy.  Of the 35 Class A bands (based on school enrollment) that competed at Marching Band State Finals in the fall, only four bands also earned superior ratings at Concert Band State Finals.  This is the third consecutive year the THS Band Program has achieved that goal.  Choir has earned superior ratings eight of the last 10 years.
  • Tippecanoe Middle School recently received a $3,000 grant from Meijer’s for improvements in the gymnasium.
  • Broadway students and families enjoyed an evening of art and ice cream at the annual Art Show on Tuesday.  Students in kindergarten through third grades displayed art in various media.
  • THS Octagon Club hosted its eighth annual blood drive last week registering 140 students.  The Community Blood Center was able to collect 120 pints of blood at the drive, qualifying THS as a Gold Member of the  Lifesaving Ambassadors Club.  The award is given to groups that meet 90 percent of their goal at all their blood drives.  The project, initiated by School Nurse, Mrs. Candy Teague, is a major outreach project for the club with the number of donors having increased each year.
  • Congratulations!  Joey O’Brien, a senior at Tippecanoe High School, earned his Eagle Scout Award last month.  Joey has been active in Troop 395.  Highlights of his scouting career were two High Adventure Trips.  He had a sailing trip off the coast of Florida and went to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.  Joey’s Eagle Project was to construct a rain garden at Hobart Nature Preserve in Troy.
  • The students at TMS have placed a picnic table on their “Wish List” to complement the flourishing courtyard garden which they maintain as part of their science curriculum.  Anyone who has a new or gently used picnic table to donate can please contact Mr. Len Kenyon at LKenyon@tippcity.k12.oh.us.
  • Tippecanoe Middle School 2010 Choir Awards were presented to Alisha Bhagwat, Zach Bonner and Nate Peele at the choir concert Thursday evening.
  • TMS will host its Spring Sports Awards at 6 p.m., May 20, in the school gymnasium.
  • Good Luck At State Science Fair:  Thomas Chaney, Kyla Jones, Samantha Rowland and Elizabeth Walker (TMS); as well as THS students, Andrew Abboud, Chris Bruening, Steven Chaney, Alexandra Robbins, Briana Schultz and Hannah Walker.  Andrew Abboud is the first THS student to qualify for the International Science Fair, which will take place next week in San Jose, California.
