The City of Tipp City is looking towards its future and wants the public to help determine what that future might look like. Several questions arise: What type of housing should the city encourage? If Tipp City grows, where should that growth occur? How will growth or change impact city services? All of these are important issues the city wants to address as part of the current process to update the Tipp City Comprehensive Plan. The plan is the community’s policy document that guides decisions related to the physical development and growth of the community as it looks at what is to become of the city over the next 10 to 15 years. It is this reason that the city has chosen to brand the process as Imagine Tipp City.

The city wants to make sure that this is a community driven plan with as much public input as possible. To do this, the city is working with consultants to facilitate a number of events and activities that will allow all residents and business owners to help shape the recommendations of the plan. So far, the city has made several efforts to solicit feedback at community events such as the Yuletide Winters Gathering, the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala, and meetings with a host of interest groups including the community’s senior citizens and high school students. On March 16th, the city hosted the project kick-off meeting where the consultants established the process for the plan and then facilitated interactive exercises that sought to find out what are some of the issues the city is facing, what the priorities are, and what are areas of the city that they value or would like to see change. All of this will be used to help identify the overarching goals and objectives for the community.

Following all of these initial events, the city and its consultants will be working toward the development of the plan and will be hosting two major events in late April and May to help really shape the framework of the plan. First, on April 28th, from 6 until 8 PM, the city will host a second large community planning event where everyone is encouraged to come out and participate in a number of activities to help craft the vision and outline of the plan that will include identifying desired future land uses and their respective locations. There will also be discussions on the various strategies for making the vision a reality. The information gathered during this event will be critical for the development of the key recommendations that will be incorporated in the plan. In order to make sure that everyone who participates quickly sees how their input has been received, the city will host a follow-up open house on May 9th from 5 until 8 PM where citizens can stop in at their convenience to see the outline of the plan including major recommendations and conceptual maps.

All events will be will be held at the Tipp City Government Center – 260 South Garber Drive. For more information, please contact Matt Spring at 937-506-3172 or at springm@tippcity.net. You can also keep up with the project at www.ImagineTippCity.com or at the Imagine Tipp City Facebook page.
