The Christian-based choir Young Spirits celebrated their 41st Palm Sunday performances on Saturday and Sunday, April 16th and 17th. For 41 years Young Spirits has been putting on performances in the Milton-Union High School Gym bringing the word of God to the surrounding community.
This year’s show was entitled “Prodigal” and was a modern day retelling of the biblical story of the prodigal son. The story was focused around a main character named Devon, played by MU senior Kyle Fullmer. In the story Devon struggles with leaving his old life behind to become closer to God.
Throughout his prodigal journey Devon attempts to stay true to his faith, but his past keeps creeping up behind him and pulling him away from his church and the good life he attempts to lead.
The group was made up of over sixty students 7th through 12th grades from Milton-Union, Tipp City, Northmont, and Troy Christian Local Schools. Practices started in January at the Hoffman United Methodist Church in West Milton.
The group practiced every Saturday preparing for the performance and traveled to the surrounding churches to sing songs from the program.
“We had an awesome group of youth this year and a musical that was very relevant to their lives. Many of the youth said that they thought this year’s musical was the best performed by Young Spirits.” director David Wion said about this year’s program.
