TOUR ORGANIZED FOR 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CIVIL WAR

During the past few months, representatives from northern Miami Valley historical societies have worked together to create an educational bus tour in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.  A tour of selected sites in Auglaize, Shelby, and Miami County will be held on Monday, June 20.

The all-day event is scheduled to begin at 9:00am at the William A. Ross, Jr. Historical Center, 201 N. Main Street in Sidney.  Featured on the tour are:  the Monumental Building—Sidney’s Civil War Veterans Meeting Hall, the American Bicycle Museum in New Bremen where a restored Civil War flag of the 37th Ohio Volunteer Infantry is exhibited, a drive through the historic African-American town of Rumley, Ohio, a view of the Civil War Soldier at Rest Statue in Pleasant Hill, a walking tour of Civil War era buildings in downtown Troy, and historical presentations at Forest Hill Cemetery and the Johnston Farm and Indian Agency in Piqua.   Local historians will give short talks throughout the day.  A luncheon stop is also included.

The road trip is sponsored and organized by:  The Civil War 150 Leadership Council, the Piqua Historical Society, the Shelby County Historical Society, and the Troy Historical Society.   Participating organizations include:  Bicycle Museum of America, First Presbyterian Church of Troy, Forest Hill Cemetery, Johnston Farm and Indian Agency, and Museum of Troy History.

The cost of the tour (including lunch) is $35.00 per person.  Please note that space is limited and reservations must be made by June 6.
