Councilman Gibson Announces Re-Election Bid

City Councilman Joseph E. Gibson has announced today that he is running for re-election for City Council in Tipp City, Ohio. Gibson, a 20-year resident of the city submitted his petition earlier today with the Miami County Board of Elections.   “While I’d like to think that I have raised some relevant issues, and accomplished some important things, there is still more to do for the Citizens of Tip City.”  Gibson was elected in 2009 with the largest number of votes ever cast for a candidate at that time.  In his time on council he has submitted budgets calling for nearly a half a million dollars in cuts without laying-off one police or fire worker, or firing a single city employee.  He was also instrumental in the passage of the sign code legislation this year which eliminated regulatory burdens for businesses in Tipp, and introduced legislation eliminating City Council health insurance, saving the city over $100,000 a year. Gibson also called for an investigation into the City’s Tax Department, resulting in an overhaul of that department, and restructuring of the revenue collection process.

“I have tried to serve with honor, and respect. As hard as we have worked on Council there is still more to do.”  Gibson said. “We are in the middle of the largest reconstruction efforts in our City’s history and I’d like to see it through.  We also still have work to do on the updating of the City’s Zoning Code.”  Gibson sits on the steering committee responsible for updating the City’s Land-Use Regulations, a year-long project where the entire Zoning Code is reviewed and modified.  “We hear a lot of talk about making things more ‘user-friendly’ or ‘bringing businesses into town’, this effort to update the Zoning Code is a true hands-on attempt to make our community more friendly to the right kind of businesses we want here. I hope that I can continue work on this as the Council’s voice on this issue.”

Gibson, 47 has been married to his wife Sonia for 22 years, and has 2 children, Diana and Sarah. He is an attorney with Gibson Law Offices in Vandalia, Fairborn, and Middletown.  He has served on the Tipp City Planning Board, The Miami County Council, and Tipp-Monroe Cable Access Commission.
