As like in all aspects of raising a child some missteps were taken between the parent and their offspring but by working together a peaceful harmony resulted. In preparation for the fourth annual Blizzard Blast at L.T Ball, parents and their fifth grade child have been attending dance lessons on Tuesday nights through the month of January. More than just learning the right moves the classes, like parent/student dance itself, presents a time for special bonding.
“It’s a wonderful experience, I’ve learned a lot, such as my daughter is like my wife in that she dominates the dance,” David Wadsworth said, of his daughter, Chloe.
The Blizzard Blast is organized by the physical education teacher, Jeanne Koch, as an event that unites families in a spirited environment. Koch leads the dance lessons along with Gloria Bischoff, a professional instructor who had her own dance studio for 40 years. Her experience is instrumental in teaching the participants the swing, jitterbug, waltz, polka and other dances.
Bischoff, who once did aerial ballet for the Ringling Bros. Circus, relishes the chance to be part of something that so strongly connects the parents with their child.
“I’m really looking forward to the dance, it’s going to be a special time to share with my daughter,” Nick Schwindler said, who last danced on his wedding day.
Schwindler’s daughter, Catie is also looking forward to the Blizzard Blast and especially doing the Electric Slide.
Those attending also plan to dress for the occassion with their finest apparel, even if some help is needed. “My wife is going shopping and will tell me what to wear,” Scwhinder said.
On the arm of fifth grader K.C Rinke will be his mother Mary, who after attending multiple classes will be ready to sparkle on the dance floor. “We’ve had lots of fun and have learned a lot,” she said.
On January 30th at L.T Ball the Blizzard Blast will fill parents and their children alike with warm memories as they step into each others hearts in perfect rhythm.
