Tipp News Welcomes Peppermint Paddy Book Reviews

Dear Readers,

I am the new columnist writing book reviews for Tipp News Daily.

It is difficult taking over from Cara King. I knew Cara from swim team, the library, and my daughter babysat for their children. She ran the coffee shop at Ginghamsburg Church where we first got to know her. She was a great mentor and confidante for my teenage daughter. As a working mom, I was in awe of her energy and enthusiasm for her many extracurricular activities.

When I think of Cara, I smile. One can only hope that one leaves the earth a better place just like Cara. I will give my best effort to continue reviews of books that was started by Cara.

I’ve been an avid reader since my teenage days. My free time for reading was curtailed in college and I started reading for pleasure early in my career. Then came marriage and kids and reading took a back seat again. Our daughter is now in college, our son is a junior at Tippecanoe High School and I now have time to read. I have a Kindle but I still enjoy a hard copy book. I read almost every evening before I go to sleep. I travel occasionally for my job and read in airports, on the plane, and in my hotel room.

I just finished a seven year term as a Trustee for the Tipp City Library.

What a great experience, I learned so much and became acquainted with a fascinating group of people. Many of the book recommendations have come from our librarians by asking them “what was the last good book that you read?” They’ve introduced me to authors that I would have never considered. In addition, I’ve recently read some Young Adult fiction and award winners and can’t wait to read more.

I also have followed Dayton’s “Big Read” project for the last several years and have enjoyed the selected books and accompanying articles.

I’ve been to several book signings and enjoy listening to authors. Mitch Albom spoke a few years ago at Tippecanoe High School and I had the chance to meet Nicholas Sparks at the Mall of America in Minnesota.

I look forward to and welcome your feedback, suggestions, and remarks.

Happy Reading,

Patty Ash
