Tipp Pride and Day of Caring

April 22, 2013: Tipp City Area United Way had 95 volunteers and Tipp Monroe Community Services had 60 volunteers that completed a variety of projects to improve the community by donating their time and efforts for the Day of Caring/Tipp Pride Day on Sat. April 20!

Kathy Taylor with Community Services stated, “We coordinated 10 community improvement projects. A few of the projects included sprucing up the flower beds in the city parks, Boy Scout & Girl Scout volunteers picked up trash in the city parks, and Regal Beloit volunteers also picked up trash and helped spruce up the parks”. Taylor concluded, “Tipp City’s community pride is overwhelming, we are very grateful for their effort in volunteering”.

“The goal of Day of Caring is to get as many churches, organizations, and employee groups to come together as one to unleash shared care into the community. It builds bridges and brings people together,” said Lisa Bratton from Process Equipment Company and Committee Chair of the Tipp City Area United Way.

United Way had 16 projects on the agenda for the Day of Caring/Tipp Pride Day. 9 projects were homes of residents who needed small repairs or yard work on Saturday. Many of those were widows and/or disabled, and can no longer do their own yard work or keep up with repairs. The additional 7 projects were organized with some of our Partner Agencies, Needy Baskets, New Path, New Creation Counseling, and DreamBuilders Group.

“Behind every yard or home improvement project our generous volunteers are helping with today, there is a story,” stated Deb Carr, Executive Director for our local United Way. “Many of the people we are assisting are widowed and have debilitating disabilities that does not allow them to do their own work, they have trouble just walking, and in some of the circumstances there are just not enough resources to hire someone to help them. We are letting our community members know that we Care about them,” continued Carr.

Tipp City Area United Way is fortunate to have so many volunteers. Our volunteers are from PNC Bank, CrossRoads Christian Fellowship, and our largest volunteer group was Abbott who had about 65 volunteers. All our volunteers have a philosophy of giving back to their community. Lisa Bratton, Ruth Safreed, and Pastor Jim Valekis, United Way board members, also volunteered their time organizing our Day of Caring.

Deb Carr, United Way Director stated, “All our volunteers have demonstrated what being a good neighbor means, and the United Way wants to thank them, they truly do “Live United,” which is something you can’t turn off. It means taking the time to do what you can to help and everyone has been a huge part of doing that today.”

The Day of Caring is an annual event that is held each spring and ran in conjunction with Tipp Pride Day. We are hoping to get more Churches, businesses, organizations, and community members involved next year. Be sure to view our Day of Caring event on KIT-TV or on their website www.kittv.org to be inspired. Many hours are put into organizing the event; please watch our local papers next year around February, to let us know if you need help.

Ms Carr, with United Way expressed with tremendous thankfulness, “We had many businesses who donated to our Day of Caring event, McDonalds, Food Town, Meijer Distribution Center, Gardens Alive, Process Equipment Company, City of Tipp City, Mulch on Demand, CrossRoads Christian Fellowship Church, Lisa Bratton, Ruth Safreed, and many other miscellaneous donors, we are grateful for your community spirit.”
