City Council Meeting 8-15-11

The Tipp City Council held a meeting on Monday August 15, 2011. All members of the council were present except council-member George Lovett who was excused.

The following are the of the highlights of the meeting:

A motion to hire an additional police officer following discussion of the staffing of the police department was approved unanimously.

Betty Jackson, a resident of 15 Earl Court, addressed Council stating that it has been two years since the city cut the budget for mosquito fogging and she has heard complaints from other residents saying that they are not able to enjoy the outdoors. She requests that the utility bill have a cost similar to the current leaf pick up for fogging. Mr. Hale indicated that it would be addressed at the budget meeting.

Mr. Gibson reported that the operating budget and capital improvement plan approval is approaching. The 2011 budget is available online, under the heading “Resident Information.” The Operating Budget will be reviewed on October 24 at 3:00 and the Capital Improvement Budget will be reviewed on November 28 at 3:00. Both meetings are open to the public.

The bike path opening was nice. The individuals and organizations that made this happen were thanked.

The annual Mum Festival is coming up 9/23 – 9/25 and all events surrounding the Mum Festival were indicated.

Councilmember Hale asked Mr. Crusey, City Manager, if it is true that the new water tower is crooked or leaning slightly. The Tipp City Utilities Director and manager of the water tower project, Christy Butera, indicated that she has no reason to believe that it is crooked.

Mr. Crusey reported that the nice weather is not great for The Tipp City Aquatic Center. The city is now behind financially where they were this time last year. Income tax collections are up this month.

Kyle Park handicapped construction will start this week.

The city received 24 proposals for architectural work for the expansion of the fire station.

Ten individuals will be brought in to speak regarding the hiring of the secretary to the City Manager. Hundreds of resumes were received.

Law director application process is moving forward.
