West Milton 4th of July Parade

Hundreds of Miami County residents gathered yesterday along the streets of West Milton’s downtown business district to watch and celebrate Independence Day. The street was adorned in red, white and blue from the flag poles and mast arms all the way down to the socks of 4 year olds.

The parade was lead by the Milton-Union Band followed up by local dignitaries including Ohio House Representative Richard “Dick” Adams. Both the Miami County Democrats and Miami County Republicans fielded a float for this year’s parade with the Republican float flanked by none other than Ohio Senate hopeful, Bill Beagle (of Tipp City) along with 25 of his supporters. Of course the grand finale of the parade was a lineup of bright red and white fire engines from West Milton, Union Twp. and Ludlow Falls. The dozen or so polished fire-fighting vehicles capped off the parade with their sirens blaring.

This annual 4th of July celebration coincides with a weekend-long festival in West Milton that began on July 2nd and culminated with the fireworks display at 10PM last night. The festival took place in Lions Club Municipal Park and included amusement rides, games, food and local organization booths. The Lions Club also brought out their renowned BBQ Chicken dinners at their shelter house following the parade. Another hot attraction for West Milton residents and visitors from Thursday through Sunday was Lions Club BINGO, also taking place within the shelter house.
